Gomes begins the works in this series by manipulating metal construction wire into curving, gestural compositions—each twist and turn a mark of intention and force. Torção translates to “twist” or “torsion,” encapsulating the physicality and dynamism inherent in creating these works. The malleable yet sturdy wire is a foundation upon which she weaves movement and bodily energy.

Gomes adds volume and texture by wrapping the wire with textiles, transforming the raw metal into a more tactile, organic form. The fabric clings to the wire like muscle over bone, giving the work dimensionality and depth. These pieces are not just sculptural; they are records of motion—imprints of the artist’s physical engagement with her materials. Each torsion reflects the presence of her hand, her body in motion, and her bending wire into shape.
