Integral to Shechet’s work is the way in which sculpture encourages movement. The work stands still, yet prompts the viewer to move around and examine it from different angles. “Sculpture is always hiding something,” Shechet says. As the viewer circumambulates December Dawn: Together, they are rewarded as new details and aspects are unveiled: the pebbled gray-blue surface is interrupted by a liquid green-black tongue of glaze, frozen mid-drip above its steel base.
