The green drip in Sun Up: Together oozes from one of the sculpture’s orifices, giving the viewer a sense that it flowed out as a natural result of its formation. The volatility inherent in the ceramic glazing and firing process brings unexpected visual and chemical transformations to the work. These outcomes are an essential ingredient in the artist’s sculptures. Shechet has used clay as one of her primary mediums over the last several decades and its innate malleability encourages her penchant for experimentation.
