The hewn and painted wooden trunk of Mystery History retains the textural knots and natural deformities of the organic material, which has been washed with flashes of blue dye. The chunks of wood are knit together, with wedges fitted in the gaps between, leaving an impression of pressure and care. Flints of palladium catch light and are a material thread, relating this work to Next Sentence (2022), nearby. The polished steel mirrors light and movement, speaking to the theme of material reflectiveness in the outdoor works. The cracks and lines throughout are like line drawings for Shechet. The red-glazed ceramic oozing out of one of the crevices is a motif seen in many of the Together works, such as December Dawn: Together (2023) nearby.
