The protagonist of Eat Cake appears manic, her appetite insatiable. With her repeated behaviors, her indulgences take on a ritualistic quality. There is a sense of refusal in her unkempt appearance, her unwavering commitment to her task, as if to argue that mess and voracity are as inherent in femininity as anything else.
